Im a newbie im trying to break into this field and i would love some helpful advice from you experienced planners. I live in Columbus, GA and there is only one planner here. She is very uptight and rude. So i thought i would love to be a planner so im trying to find out were i could get the best training form at an affordable price and also what type of advice you seasoned planners can offer for someone like me. I already design custom wedding invitations for brides at http://www.jessicascustominvitations.biz and have a blog geared towards the eccentric bride at http://www.punkbrides.wordpress.com. so any and all helpful advice is appreciated and if one of you wants to take me under there wing i would love the help.
Thank you

Hi Jessica, congratulations on breaking into an exciting business. I love wedding planning!! I have been in business a year next month and while I wouldn't consider myself 'seasoned', I can give a little advice...

I recommend the training offered by the ABC (Association of Bridal Consultants). This is an association that will give you credibility with brides and when you take their courses, you get points towards becoming a member. (They have different membership tiers, with different requirements). They also occasionally offer local training which counts as well.

The other training that I opt for is Natalie Bradley's Bride Attraction System. She is an amazing wedding planner, and she now teachers aspiring planners (as well as other wedding vendors) how to *very effectively* market to brides. She has many free articles on her website, and you can sign up for her weekly e-zine which is full of great marketing information! This is a huge part of what you will need to know as a planner. You can take all of the courses you want, but if you don't know how to bring the brides in, it makes no difference.

Hope this helps!!

Pat:

Would love to discuss what you are doing, as it is something we could use in this area (Phila). Everyone and their mother wants to be a wedding planner, but really don't understand what is involved.

Hey Jessica!

I am here in Atlanta, Georgia, not to far from you:-) We have a program that we provide which includes training and experience working on real weddings, and we are not just talking about shadowing someone in the backgroud:-) Because of the depth of the information, I sent it to you directly. Let me know if I can assist you in any other way.

Cheers!

Rhonda
