I started out helping friends and family with showers for weddings and babies. I helped my mom make hand made invitations for showers for my cousins. Then I started helping out at my church for Care-N-Share dinners for Thanksgiving for people with no families and people with low incomes. I helped set up. I really enjoyed it. My friends started getting engaged and found myself engaged with them and I helped them and they helped me and I enjoyed every moment of planning. Once my own wedding was over, I felt empty. I then received a letter from the Association of Bridal Consultants asking me if I loved planning my wedding and if I thought I might like planning other people's weddings. I took their courses and it took me 5 years to get certified. It took 5 years because in that time I became a mom and took some time to focus on that. Now I have been doing weddings for 3 years. I still love it. I think my favorite part is really getting to know the bride and groom and making their day reflect their personalities and their love story. I truelly enjoy the love stories and why they decided to get married.
I love planning weddings and making people happy. I am also a collegiate and corporate events director for an upstate ny university. The wedding planning side is a very fun extension of what I am doing on the campus. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing families enjoying their special events together. I love that about wedding and other familial events planning.
Ever since I was little, I have always enjoyed planning parties. I can remember at the age of 9, planning elaborate birthday and Christmas parties for little friends to enjoy (my parents were good at letting me express myself). Naturally, when it was time for me to get married (over 11 years ago), I couldn't wait to plan every detail! To this day, there is not one thing I would change about my wedding. People have always told me that I should become a Planner, so a few years ago I decided to get into the Bridal Industry. I worked at a bridal boutique finding the "perfect gown" for my brides. I learned very quickly that this was where I belonged. I never get tired of hearing the love story, the engagement, and the beginnings of the wedding plans. I also love hearing about the family dynamics. Usually after I sold the gown, I would also be asked to come the day of the wedding to get everyone dressed. About a year ago, I decided to jump in head first, and I LOVE IT!! I love getting to know the girls, and by the end, having made wonderful new friends. Unfortunately, I have only been able to do about 6 weddings in the last year. I don't seem to be able to get any mentoring, and I find myself spending much of my time researching the best ways to market myself. I do love this website....it has wonderful ideas! and
My beginning came as an extension of my job as a Human Resources Director. It was through team building and "off-site" events that my talent for event design grew. Soon, friends and co-workers began asking me to plan parties, socials and eventually, weddings. From that experience, I developed a level of creativity and care unpararelled by others around me at the time. The joy I felt at assisting couples to experience the very best beginning possible at the start of their life together led me to obtain my own certification, training and launch my official wedding planning company. It has been twenty years now that I have had the pleasure of serving couples in this capacity. Each and every day I am thankful at the privilege of running my own company. Over this same time, I have created avenues to give back to other aspiring small wedding business owners and now provide easily accessibletraining, internships and business mentoring and coaching.
