Probably the most critical question is what type of personality does the photographer have? How does he/she handle stressful situations and interact with guests at weddings?
1. Do you offer a guarantee
2. Do you have liability insurance
3. Do you have back up equipment
4. Do you have an assistant and/or second photographer
5. How much time do you need to do the formals
6. What's the best time of day to do the ceremony

Question - my ceremony will be outside and I want perfect lighting...should I be concerned where the sun is located at my ceremony site?

A critical question these days is does the photographer have experience shooting in natural light AND using artificial lighting. I've seen the results of natural light photographers that do a great job outside in the daytime, but have trouble shooting in a dimly lit reception hall at 8pm

Have you shot a wedding at my venue or a venue similar to mine?
How the photographer answers this question will tell you a lot about their style, personality and adaptability. It isn't necessary for a great photographer to have shot at your venue before but they should be familiar with the challenges and opportunities each venue creates.
Can you show me a complete wedding? What you see on our websites is our highlight reel. To make sure you are choosing the right photographer ask to see a whole wedding.
I always get the "list" of questions that EVERYONE asks, doe you have a backup, have you here before, how long for formals, etc, etc. The one question I always ask my couples is pretty important I think:
"What do you want from your photographer?" I ask them to make it personal. What kind of images, how much posed images vs. just let me do my thing. Do you place more value in emotional photos vs. group shots? I then ask them which photos from my portfolio tug at your heart? From the answers they give we BOTH walk way from our meeting with a clear sense of what is expected ( which is super important) during the wedding.
