One of our clients was complaining that the groom's parents were not going to host/pay for their rehearsal dinner.  Both the bride and groom were qute upset.

I've read that traditonally the groom's parents or family pays for the dinner.  However, today older couples are opting to pay for the rehearsal dinner themselves.

What is your opinion?

Hi...

You  are correct, traditionally, the grooms parents are supposed to host the rehearsal dinner.  However, the couple should have discussed this (and all financial concerns) at the beginning of their wedding planning.  They also should have "tactfully" discussed it with the groom's parents if they are doing everything by tradition.  If they have a wedding planner, he/she should have given them a breakdown of who pays for what during their initial consultation.  However, you are also right, today many couples are opting to pay for many or all of the wedding expenses themselves.

I like the old tradition of the groom's parents paying for the rehearsal.  I still have many couples that follow this rule and think the majority still do.  If budget is an issue, the groom's family can always host a gathering at their home with a casual barbecue to avoid the expense of a restaurant and bar bill.

I agree with you.

Spoke with the client this morning about custom bridal party t shirts and she told her mom and dad are paying for the dinner.  But, she did not think it was fair.
