Uncheesy Themed Decoration

My fiance and I are getting married next September in a firehouse in
DC, we're then having the reception at a nearby hall (which happens to
be attached to another firehouse). He's a firefighter and he chose the
location because of the importance of his job to his life. I have always been into very formal elegant affairs, so they
are going to be in navy dress uniforms etc. The wedding colors are
Aubergine, Sage and Cream. I've got all my froofy stuff planned with no
problem, but I have no clue about adding "firefighter" touches to stuff
that aren't horrendously cheesy. I'm not allowed to put anything on the
engines, or some of the equipment inside.

First thing I'm going to take 360 degree shots of everything and work
ideas from there.We live a few hours from DC so its not exactly easy to
pop in and think of things. But Im trying to put as much together beforehand as possible. I've already priced out garlands in various materials and matching colors.

So.......with all that in mind, I really need help with ideas for decor that's theme related.

Have the grooms cake as a firetruck, bunker gear, etc. Find small inexpensive fire extinguishers for some of the table centerpieces decorated with items you have already purchased. Borrow a couple of the helmets to use as centerpieces decorated. See if you can find a small flat firetruck to put on your garter. Have pictures taken of you and him prior to the wedding at the firestation around the equipment, etc and place around the tables. The possibilities are endless. Hope this helps. I could probably go on all night, but you get the idea. Hopefully this helps get the ball rolling. Send pix after the wedding, would love to see them.

its going to be interesting. the groom veto'd a few items, tables are all going to be named after their first due areas, and i was told that the stuff i bought would probably get nicked (after shelling out for authentic burned helmets etc) but i did find an awesome 10" firehydrant figurine on ebay for cheap so thinking of buying some of those and using them.

My suggestion would be to keep it simple to avoid over-doing the firefighter theme... It's already in the right location for that.. .I would agree about the cake, however... this is usually the best, and most thoughtful way of getting an element such as this into the picture without it being "cheesy"... and I'm sure he (and his friends/co-workers) would appreciate the idea. I'm not too certain about adding fire hydrants or similar pieces to the decor - might be way too over the top.
