When I had my wedding I did not do a makeup run through because I was trying to cut corners to stay within my budget right at the end.  I had my makeup done with this spa place when my best friend got married a few months earlier, and it looked incredible, and I had an appt with the same person. At least I thought I had her name right.  Turns out when I showed up on my wedding day, she was not the same girl from a few months earlier, and this girl wanted to use her own line of makeup on me!! I am usually very assertive, but for some reason on my wedding day I was so afraid of turning into the stereotypical bridezilla that I did not say no when I should have run screaming.  She did my makeup with her line that she made, and it was horrible but it was too late to do anything.  I liked the eye makeup but the face just looked so bad...and in the pictures it showed.  I was tan for the wedding and my face looked way whiter than the rest of me.  This was my least favorite thing about our wedding which was amazing.  I also wished that DH and I had put more thought into what he and his men had worn- something more original and interesting instead of the standard tux rental...We sell suits online now at monkeysuitvintage.com, and about half of our sales are to brides and grooms for weddings.  Then the guy can still were it later in all it's versatility and it's so much more original and the quality shows in the pictures!

Our blog has pictures of one of our suits in a pro wedding shoot by Krissy McCabe.  I am also posting this article, so just skip down to see the shoot.

Marie - so sorry you went thru this. Nothing worse than having the wrong look on your wedding day - and a pro makeup artist would know what products work for camera and what do not. Most all profesional lines work - by that I mean products made for the film and cinema mediums - found in Hollywood for the most part. My favorite line to use on most everyone is Cinema Secrets because it's made for the film industry and is camera ready. There is a flash back from most all retail foundations and powders - pro lines generally do not contain MICA or SPF which reflect. The main issue with most all foundations - and the first thing a good makeup artist must know is "base matching" - or how to match your skin tone to your face, neck and decolletage all in one. They eye sees the entire skin shown in a photo - not just the face portion.

When in doubt always seek the services of a professional makeup artist that has a portfolio of work to see for yourself. Spas generally sell their own product line and that isn't always what works for your pictures. I hope this helps someone who is considering hiring a makeup artist for their wedding. Get a consultation/trial first - and look at several artists work to determine if YOU like what you see before that consultation. Makeup and hair should be a happy experience on your wedding day, not something negative. ~Lisa Johnson www.bridesbylisa.com
