Getting Married in The Bahamas
To get married in the Bahamas, there are several requirements that need to be met if you are to be legally married in The Bahamas and have your marriage recognized in the US, Canada and anywhere you happen to live in the world.
Firstly, both parties must be at least 18 years old as this is the legal age for marriages in The Bahamas. If either person is at least 16 years old but not yet 18, parental consent is required.
Secondly, you will need to obtain a Bahamas Marriage License from the Registrar General's office in Nassau or Freeport or at The Administrator's Office in any of the family islands. To apply for the license, both individuals must be in The Bahamas for a period of 24 hours and provide proof of their legal entry into the country, by either an immigration entry stamp in their passports or immigration card given at the time of entry; will need to have valid passports as proof of identity. If either person has been previously married, proof of divorce or a death certificate of the former spouse will be required. And if neither party has been married before then each must provide an affidavit of single-hood attesting to the fact that they have never been married before. And pay the marriage license application fee of $100.00.
Thirdly, contract the services of a licensed, Bahamas Marriage Officer, as these are the only persons' that can perform legal weddings in The Bahamas. You will need two witnesses over the age of 18 to be present at the wedding ceremony and their names will appear on the certified Bahamas Marriage Certificate that is issued showing that you have been legally married in The Bahamas.
