Five Common Reasons Women Visit a Gynecologist

Usually, it is the female member of a family who arranges the entire family’s health care. Unfortunately, she usually neglects her own health care. If you are a woman, you should start looking for womens' doctor to make sure you stay healthy and continuously take care of the people you love.

A gynecologist plays an important role in women’s healthcare. They can take care of a patient’s reproductive system and hear them out as they talk about their medical conditions. Below are the common reasons to see a gynecologist:

Check-Ups

As a gynecologist can act as your primary care provider, they can give you check-ups. They can carry out the standard medical examination. Also, they can do a pelvic examination to check for abnormalities in your urinary and reproductive systems. You should get this examination done at least one time every year. In addition, your doctor will perform a Pap smear to screen for cervical cancer. This procedure should be done every two years. A breast examination can also be done during your visit to a gynecologist to screen you for breast cancer.

Pregnancy

The majority of gynecologists are also obstetricians, working with pregnant women in every stage of their pregnancy until childbirth. During pregnancy, the doctor will see a pregnant patient at least once every month. They will carry out different tests to ensure both the mother and baby are healthy.

Birth Control

Women who are sexually active, but do not want to get pregnant should visit a gynecologist to learn about different birth control options. Although the majority of women can use birth control pills safely, doctors may not recommend them for women who have medical conditions such as breast cancer, diabetes, and health issues. Gynecologists can help patients pick a safe and dependable birth control method.

Infertility

Depending on the reason a woman is infertile, a gynecologist can treat the issue or recommend a fertility specialist to the patient. A gynecologist can handle minor fertility issues and prescribe fertility medications that can stimulate ovulation. Also, they can do artificial insemination.

Sexually Transmitted Disease

Women who suffer from a sexually transmitted disease must visit their gynecologist. Due to the moist and warm environment in the genital area, different bacteria and viruses can thrive there. When not treated, some sexually transmitted diseases can have severe consequences such as cancer and infertility. A gynecologist can diagnose and treat these diseases as well as advise patients on how they can avoid getting them again.
