Your Wedding Checklist Part 1

Planning a wedding can seem like an overwhelming task. Not everyone is going to hire a wedding planner. For many brides, the planning falls on them and their family. With so many details and things to do, a bride’s main fear is forgetting something and the wedding turning into a disaster.

In most cases brides generally have about year before their wedding date which equals to time on your side. So here is a checklist of things to do when you have a year to plan that amazing day.

12 Months Away

• Begin thinking about the wedding dress that you want. Look through bridal magazines, online websites, Pinterest, etc. Save photos of the dresses you like so that you can slowly begin to look for a design that feels like you.
• Set a date for your engagement party. Traditionally the bride’s family will host the engagement party however the maid of honor or just about anyone can host this wonderful event.
• Establish your wedding budget. Weddings can go from simple and budget friendly to extravagant and extremely expensive. It’s best to establish your budget now so that you can work within it over the next year. This saves you from taking the chance of spending a small fortune on your wedding.
• Start planning your guest list. Your budget will determine the amount of guests that you can invite to your big day.

11 Months Away

• Begin researching wedding venues. Look at various locations and settings and begin to develop a list that details each venue and the cost to host your wedding and reception there.
• Plan what your wedding colors and/or theme will be as well as what type of flowers you would like in your bouquet and centerpieces.
• Choose who your officiant will be or if you don’t have a person in mind begin asking friends and family for recommendations.
• Develop a beauty and fitness plan so you’ll look and feel your best on that special day.

10 Months Away

• Reserve your wedding and reception venue. You don’t want to wait any longer as most venues book up 9 to 12 months in advance.
• Choose and confirm the officiant you want to use.
• Begin to look at your plan B options for any inclement weather on your special day especially if you are having an outdoor wedding. Mother Nature is a finicky thing that no one can predict.
• If you are going to book a block of rooms for your bridal party and guests, now is the time to do this. Select a hotel that is convenient to your wedding and reception venue.
• If you haven’t already, pick the members that will make up your bridal party.
