One of the first decisions that has to be made when preparing for your wedding reception is the venue. Choosing the venue affects the majority of the elements that comprise your wedding day like food, the band, flowers, transportation and many more. In choosing a venue for your wedding reception, other factors like your personality, your budget or the weather need to be considered and prepared for. Here are some of the most preferred wedding venues and what you need to know before deciding on them.

Hotels
Hotels are ideal because of the many amenities it can offer you and your guests. If you have guests that come from out of town, the easy accommodations also come in handy. Hotels also offer food, drinks and in house decors that can minimize the time, effort and cost put into the preparations. They can also offer many options to fit the type of wedding reception that you prefer.
Some bigger hotels hold multiple events at the same time so there might be some restrictions when it comes to time and privacy.
Beach, gardens and other outdoor venues
Having nature as your setting can allow you to cut back on the expenses that will be allotted for themes and decorations. You can have Mother Nature as your setting and a little extra touch will go a long way.
However, what you may save on decorations may also be used to rent out other amenities such as tables, chairs, tents and other basic facilities such as mobile restrooms and transportation. You also need to be prepared sudden weather changes.
Banquet halls and restaurants
Banquet halls and restaurants specialize in food. These venues are ideal for foodie couples who want to make sure that they prepare the best spread for them and their guests to enjoy. They may also be more flexible with the menu and can offer more options than other venues.
Restaurants and banquet halls do a lot of weddings so careful efforts in preparations must be placed to avoid having a mass-produced, generic looking reception. Also, make sure to inquire about the space and if it can fit a dance floor or your band.
Your home
This is ideal for couples who have enough space that can accommodate a huge number of guests or if you are going for a small, intimate reception. Nothing personalizes your wedding than a reception at your own home.
Holding your wedding reception in the comfort of your own home may not be as comfortable. You may need to rent out extra tables, chairs depending on the number of guests you are looking to invite. There are many wedding bands or DJs who are flexible with space and instruments so make sure to go over the allowable area with them. A caterer, florist or a decorator may also need to be contacted so you can benefit from the services of a coordinator.
