Ever been present at the military wedding? If not, and you’ve just been invited to attend one - be excited! In fact, you should be very excited.

Military weddings differ from regular ones in lots of ways. And we’re not talking just about widely known differences such as wearing military attires instead of a regular wedding suit.

Being a military mommy and a proud wife myself, I had a joy of experiencing one such wedding in all its glory first-hand. So let me walk you through what makes a military wedding stand out.

Wedding Venue

First of all, you shouldn’t be surprised if you’re invited to an unusual place to witness the ceremony. You should know that most people serving the country struggle to schedule a date, time and place that will align with the schedule of all the people that should be present on a special day.

Keeping in mind that most of the people invited to the wedding are service members as well, choosing a military base (a chapel inside the base, to be more precise) is not something that’s uncommon.

Furthermore, military couples can take advantage of plenty of discounts as many companies offer their services below the usual to honor people serving in the military.

Suits and Boots

Speaking about the outfits to be expected on the military weddings earlier, we can’t miss but mention that you can also witness a bride wearing military boots if she’s the one serving the military in fact.

You can’t expect from the bride to trade her wonderful dress for her military uniform, but she can pay homage to the unit she’s serving in by keeping the heels aside and stepping into military boots.

Cutting the Cake

When it comes to the way the best man will handle the ring to the newlyweds, it’s not something that will be done the usual way, hand in hand. Instead, rings are handled on the tip of the sword - military style.

A similar routine can be seen when cutting the wedding cake. Instead of an ordinary kitchen knife, the bride and the groom can opt for more unconventional ways of cake cutting. They are more likely to use some sort of military blade, such as a sword or a cutlass.

Paying Respect to the Flag

We already talked about the best places for outdoor shootings on a wedding day. However, military couples are more likely to be seen photographed embracing the national flag.

Of course, wearing the uniform is a must during the photoshoot as well.

Since all of the people wearing the uniform are not to be expected to wear boutonnieres or other types of wedding floral decorations, others are not to be excluded from military-themed insignia as well.

This is why it’s likely to see the exploitation of new customs such as securing a number of challenge coins made by companies such as Embleholics, that will spice everything up and replace regular military tags for the people who are not military members but are still present at the ceremony.
