Wedding cakes
How to select your wedding cake?
Most brides place emphasis on choosing a gown rather than their wedding cake. A wedding cake is an important aspect of the wedding. Choosing a cake can be easy for some brides who have been planning their wedding day from the age of six. However, for some brides choosing a cake can be a nightmare. If you are one of these brides here are a few pointers.
Design
Check the internet, books and magazines for pictures of wedding cakes. This will help you to know the shape, colour and design of the cake for your wedding. Copy or print a picture of the cake or cakes you desire. Bring the picture with you to the first consultation meeting with the baker, caterer or planner. Not only will the vendor appreciate it but this will also show that you well prepared.
Jamaican wedding cake designers are creating beautiful masterpieces. My picks for great wedding cake designers locally are Karl Hart of The Pantry, Selena Wong, Shaun Grant of Shaun Delights, and Pat Lewinson of Rhapsody Cakes whose cakes are sought after by most brides.
Price
The price of the wedding cake will vary from vendor to vendor. The guest list will help to determine the amount of tiers needed for your cake as each guest represents a serving. Tiers drive the cost of the cake so the more tiers there are the higher the price.
To save money you can incorporate family members or friends who are great with cakes into your wedding. Hey, you may pay half the price but make sure to pick a reliable person.
Bookings
After you finalize on the price of the cake the next step is to book the vendor. This should be done at least six months before your wedding date. Most cake vendors will ask you for a deposit this can range from 10% to 50%. Make sure you sign off on a contract and keep the copy safe.
Taste
Most brides choose to have the traditional white icing fruit cake at their wedding. If you are a modern bride who is a chocolate fanatic there’s no rule that says you can’t have a chocolate cake at your wedding. Be bold, go for what you like, have your vanilla, cherry cheesecake, carrot, coconut, strawberry wedding cake it’s your day.
Personalizing the cake
Today, wedding cakes are full of fun, excitement and entertainment. Add your personality to your wedding cake by incorporating your ideas into the design. If you love shoes make it your wedding cake topper. If you Love your wedding dress bring the design from your dress onto the cake. You can also use monograms, flowers, ladybugs, butterflies, hearts, and photos into your wedding cake.
