When  children are included in the wedding party – as ring bears, flower girls, junior attendants, they add a special touch to the ceremony.  The young attendants  will also find the reception fun; if perhaps a little intimidating.  Only you will know how involved you would like the children to be in the reception itself. If the reception will be a long one, with various  wedding dances, you may wish to consider a “mini reception” for the children of the wedding party and guest.

Some consultants suggest letting more outgoing ring bears and older junior attendants help seat the guest at the reception.  Consider having a separate bar set up at the reception for kids.  Provide juice, water, punch or soda.  For wedding celebrations with several children in attendance, many couples arrange for the children to spend some time at the reception, but then adjourn to a special children’s reception where there may be movies on DVDs, or special entertainment.

Hire Baby sitters or young adults to supervise the room.   Before the young attendants leave the reception or dance arrange to have a couple of popular songs played so that they can dance at the reception if they wish.

Provide each child with a “goodie bag” filled with games, coloring books, dolls and other toys to keep them occupied.  The dollars store is a good source for the goodie bag.  The children will have a better time and so will their parents.
