To tip or not to tip? That is the question on the minds of many brides and grooms on their wedding day. Although it is not expected by vendors, it is certainly appreciated.
So, then who do you tip and how much? In my option, I think that the vendors and/or staff who are deserving of an extra little something, are those who go above and beyond or who do an excellent job in making sure that your special day runs smoothly and is as amazing as imagined.
Here is (what I think) a fair guide to ensure that you are taking care of your vendors but not burning your budget.
Wedding Ceremony Officiate – Donation to the church or place of worship
Nondenominational Officiate – $50-100 or nice gift
Catering Staff –
Banquet or Catering Manager – $100-200
Chef – $50 each
Bartender – $20-25 each
Waitstaff – $20-30 each
*Double check your bill to see what gratuity, if any, was already added.
Site Staff -
Coat Check/Parking attendants – $1 per guest
Powder room attendants – $.50 per guest
Wedding Coordinator – $50-100 or a nice gift
Bakery - $25-50
Florists – $30-50
Musicians – $15-25 each
Deejays – $25-100
Photographers & Videographers – $50-100
Limo Drivers – 15-20%
*Again, check to see what gratuity, if any, was already added to the bill.
Stylists & Makeup Artists – 15-25% + $3-5 for each assistant (such as shampooing)
Seamstress – $25 or small gift such as a picture of you in your dress
Delivery People – $5-10 each
Altar Boys – $10-15 each
Again, tipping is optional and the amount can vary depending on how big your party is and the quality of the product or service provided. If you are really tight on cash but you really loved a vendor(s), the least that you can do is write the vendor a thank you note and/or offer to provide a testimonial for future clients.
Excellent advice---I find that almost the only time my staff is tipped is when their is a Bridal Planner involved. I've heard the same from other vendors as well. It seems that Brides don't think of tipping unless their Planner suggests it! I don't expect my staff to be tipped if they did not do a good job........
