Wedding Song Writer's Continued Weight Journey And Celiac Disease

Wedding Song Writer's Weight Journey And Celiac Disease

To brides, groom and others who have battled their weight and have to deal with other obstacles like a special diet.

Well, I've gained a few pounds and I'm not happy. I'm afraid to get on the scale so I don't. I made two loaves of gluten free bread and they are better than the store bought ones but not nearly as soft and airy. Gluten is the protein in breads, doughs, pasta and other foods that gives it that doughy substance and that holds it together. That is why the bread kinda crumbles, no gluten to hold it together. We did go to the 50/50 raffle and I took sandwiches for the two of us and it wasn't too bad. We ate our sandwiches while others ate the food there, stuffed cabbage, ham, potatoes, wings and it goes on and on. It looked really good. I didn't have that over stuffed feeling like I would normally have after eating all that different stuff. My SIL was there and she is being tested now cuz she has had problems for years and years. She ate nothing at all since she is a very picky eater and didn't want to take the chance of getting sick. My husband couldn't drink the beer either so he had wine which was really bad wine. We should have taken his gluten free beer, which we have not tried yet but heard it was pretty good. The problem with going gluten free is that the foods defiantly have more calories, a lot more. This is my challenge now. My husband could gain a few pounds but with my weight issues, I can't. I battle my weight all the time and now it's even harder. We normally have popcorn, Orville Redenbacher, Smart Pop in the evenings. I have called them to see if it is gluten free and they dance around the subject. If a consumer can't say for sure it is gluten free, avoid the food. The book we bought has all the gluten free foods and if it's not in the book, we don't eat it. (Gluten-Free Grocery Shopping Guide 2011/2012 Edition, Matison & Matison) The book has done extreme testing and talking to different companies about their products, it's a really good book. I have to take it grocery shopping now so I have something to refer to if it is not labeled gluten free in the grocery store. It also has restaurant chains that specialize in gluten free. The problem is now we usually eat pretty healthy unless I'm binging. I'm buying things I wouldn't normally buy like granola. I love it but it has too many calories even the low fat ones. Now I've been buying granola since some of it is gluten free and I eat a lot of it. I have to stop buying stuff like that. I can't have peanut butter in the house either cuz I will eat the whole jar in about 2-3 days. Hopefully I can get this in control for him and me and come to some middle ground for the both of us.
