Wedding Song Writer's Continued Weight Journey And Celiac Disease

Well, since my last post I'm holding steady at 121 pounds. My husband was just diagnosed with celiac disease. Boy, has our eating and life style changed. Celiac disease is being allergic to gluten, not just wheat but all products like it. It is much easier if I go gluten free with him or I would have to make two different foods of everything that has gluten in it, wheat, barley, rye and so on. When making pasta I would have to make the noodles for him and then my own. Cross contamination is very serious. If I stirred his noodles with my spoon, bad news. Symptoms are, constant stomach ache, nausea, diarrhea, everyday. He had blood wok done and his liver count came back negative. he had the scope down his throat and a biopsy done of his stomach and it came back positive for celiac. I have read so much on the subject and it's amazing of what products contain gluten: stamps, envelopes, wheat, barley, rye, communion wafers, lip stick, chap stick and the obvious products. I gave bag loads of food to my son and our house is now gluten free. Instead of making products with wheat and regular flour it;s made with rice or corn flour. So far the foods aren't bad, except the breads. I bought a bread machine and will see how that goes with making our own bread. Fruits, veggies, meats and most cheeses are gluten free. Stay away from gravies and marinated meats. Celiac is an auto immune disease and almost everyone in his family had some kind of autoimmune disease. Some products are a lot more calories and some are less so this will be interesting. He has lost 20 pounds but didn't need to. When I talked to my girlfriend she said, "This is all on you, you buy the food, make it and have to make sure there is nothing lest on the counters for contamination, I said, yep". Don't even think about putting a knife in the peanut butter jar and double dipping from gluten free bread to regular, bad news. So far my biggest selection is a food chain, Giant Eagle, for the products. All gluten free foods are in their organic and natural foods section. Eating out will be another challenge. We have a 50/50 raffle this weekend and I'm taking salads in throw away containers for us to eat and he won't be able to drink the beer, but I will, I may need it bad.
