Wedding Lighting with LED Lighting.....OR NOT

LED lighting has certainly had a huge impact the special events and wedding industry. The ease of use, the infinite variations and the "green" affect make LED lights an easy choice for most special events and weddings. However, when designing the lighting for many of the events that we are a part of in New York, we don't always choose LED lights. There are a few reasons why this happens.

The first and most important reason is that we want to make sure that we don't conflict with the overall look and feel of the design and decor of the event or wedding as well as the look of the venue. The modern and cool (color temperature) look that LED lighting emits doesn't always fit with a more traditional and conservative design. For this, we resort to our trusty and traditional par up lighting. For now, nothing matches the warmth and elegance that traditional up lighting offers. It adds that special touch and creates an inviting ambiance in a room that LED lighting cannot create.

The second reason we always consider traditional lighting over LED lighting is the color of a gel. There are many times that you just need a specific color to match the decor and ambiance that LED lighting just can't simply obtain. Again, we resort back to our traditional theatrical lighting instruments that complete the look of the design and makes everything look great.

Now, don't get me wrong. When there is an event in a more contemporary setting, when the decor is more modern or when the goal of the event calls for it, by all mean, we pull out the LED's and have a great time. Additionally, when obtaining the right amount of electrical power becomes a challenge, we will also choose our fully wireless LED instruments without hesitation.

With this New York wedding, we decided to use both LED and traditional lighting instruments. The LED's were used to highlight the large crystal chandeliers in the center of the room. This afforded us the ability to change the color of the crystals of the chandelier throughout the evening. We also used traditional instruments to uplight the window coves, pin spot the tables and highlight the band on stage.
