Top 3 Tips For Pregnant Brides Finding Their Wedding Dress

“First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the baby in the baby carriage”. You may recognize this rhyme from your days on the playground, but in 2013, these rules need not apply. Many couples first lived together and have children before ever tying the knot, and that’s great. Couples should live their life in a way that’s most positive for them even if it’s non traditional.

Many women become pregnant during the engagement part of their relationship and decide to celebrate their wedding day as a pregnant bride. If you are considering this option, know that you are part of a new wedding trend with plenty of glamorous examples. Some stars who have wed while expecting include Drew Barrymore, Kate Winslet and Jennifer Garner. Below are our top three tips for blushing brides to be who will walk down the aisle while “great with child”.

1. Find the Best Style and Fit – Try to find fuller gowns rather than a figure hugging dress. Tell the sales associates at the wedding dress store that you are expecting and how far along you will be during your wedding day. Wedding dress styles to consider: A-line, princess line or empire line. Also be good to your dressmaker! She will have to work extra hard to give you the dress of your dreams. Famous New York wedding shop, Kleinfeld Bridal, of TLC’s “Say Yes to the Dress”, has in-house seamstresses who are renown for their wedding dress tailoring skills. If you live in the East Coast, definitely check it out.

2. Don’t Be Afraid to Wear White- The virgin bride in a white wedding dress has now become a minority with only 15% of brides marrying today claiming to have never had sexual intercourse. In America, specifically, 95% of women become sexually active before the age of 25. So don’t feel the need to avoid buying a white wedding gown, unless you want to. Historically, wedding dresses were never white. It wasn’t until Queen Victoria of England wore a white gown to her royal wedding in 1840 that white dresses became the norm for brides.

3. Save the 6 Inch Stilettos for Another Day- Pregnant or not, all brides spend hours standing during their wedding ceremony and reception. Our New York wedding photographers also catch their brides sneaking out of their bridal shoes after hours on the dance floor. Plenty of shoe designers make great bridal flats.

We hope this advice for pregnant brides looking for the perfect wedding dress was helpful to our readers! After years in the New York wedding photography industry, we have been able to gather some great tips from our past brides that we thought we should share with you all! Congrats to all the mamas-to-be and brides-to-be!
