Music: DJs And Live Bands
The biggest form of wedding entertainment is the music. When it comes to music you can pretty much go one of two ways: a DJ or a live band. DJs are great if you want your wedding to be more informal and party oriented. Getting a good DJ can make or break your reception. A good DJ will inspire your guests to keep dancing while playing their favorite songs.
Likewise, bands are great for a more "authentic" air. However, bands can be more expensive and more limited in their range. We recommend bands if you have a specific theme for you wedding, such as the 1920s or something cultural.
Live Acts
A recent trend in wedding entertainment is hiring live acts (outside of bands) to come perform during the reception. These range from dance troupes, to magic acts, and even public speakers depending on the theme of your wedding and what your guests like. Carnival themed weddings often hire fortune tellers to make the rounds, for example. There are endless possibilities here, but it does require a bit of a budget.
Little Things Add Up
If you can't afford much, you can still give your guests ways to stay entertained. Get a bunch of disposable cameras and put them on the tables for people to use at their discretion, or leave a giant open scrapbook on an empty table for people to add to and design themselves. Not only do people enjoy doing these crafty things to stay entertained while socializing, but they also help you with your photography and creating memories!
Getting together quality wedding entertainment doesn't have to be stressful or expensive. Just take into account what you want and need with your theme and desires, and go from there. You will often find that people will give you great deals for weddings, just because they want to help you make memories that last a lifetime.
