Wearing the Mundu Neriyathum saree

  • The lower garment or Mundu is first wrapped around the waist. Anchor one end of the garment to the petticoat. Wound the remaining part of the cloth around the lower part of your body in a single layer. This will leave some addition length of the garment that has to be converted into well defined pleats. The pleats have to be made in such a way so that when the process is completed, the vertical border of the design is visible in the front a like hanging from the waist.
  • One end of the Neriyathum is then tucked on the left side at the waist.  The cloth is then wrapped from behind the body so as to cover the hips, and on reaching the right side of the waist, it is diagonally laid over the left shoulder. This creates a covering on the torso.

The loose end should be allowed to rest on the shoulders. Pleats can be made from it, and then fixed with a pin to the blouse.
