Symbolism through Your Flowers

Flowers have a language of unspoken words that although silent rarely go unheard. The ambiance certain flowers induce is undeniable. Whether choosing them for their vibrant colors, soft tones, or the underlying meaning they hold, it is irrefutable that flowers are a tool of human expression. No wedding decoration can claim to have the mass abilities of flowers. Flowers, whether elaborate or simplistic, add a unique quality that no other decoration can measure up to.

Whatever message you’d like to portray you can do so through the flowers you choose. Let them create the setting you want, while also implicitly saying your message. You can use the type of flower as well as the color of the flower to help illustrate the picture you’d like to paint.

Through the display of colors you choose, you can introduce your own personality.  You can showcase a deep passionate portrayal of your love through shades of red.  You can try to create an audacious or glamorous environment by choosing colors that are bold and carry with them a bolder vibe.  Another option is to subtly incorporate a mood or emotion into the atmosphere with softer hues. Burgundy, revered for the passion its symbolism possesses, signifies love. Pink, burgundy’s softer counterpart, also symbolizes love; however in its case it denotes a more delicate aspect.  Love, friendship, fidelity, marriage, and innocence are only a small fraction of things attributed symbolically to various colors.

Despite the vast amount of possibilities that color offers as a means to integrate your personality into your wedding, it is not the only means available. Consider the type of flower you want also. Tradition, as well as general history, has given birth to many meanings directly linked to specific flowers. Roses are often referenced as a flower portraying love, but the tulip, orchid, and lilac all have similar representation of love. In addition to that you can add flowers such as Baby’s Breath for innocence or Calla Lily for beauty.  The possibilities are there, you just have to choose what emotions you would like to convey.

You can choose your flowers purely on the basis of a color scheme or you can choose flowers to express yourself. Whatever you choose, history has proven (or maybe better stated, history has created) symbolism in direct correspondence to flowers that are now widely recognized, but often over looked.
