Stunt Wedding and High Tea Bridal Shower

I attended a couple of fun wedding activities this past weekend.

The Stunt Wedding
The first was what the couple titled a "stunt wedding". The "real wedding" is sort of a destination wedding, as none of the people going actually live there and it is going to be very small wedding. I believe there are 40 people invited at most.

The couple themselves are very social people, and wanted to make sure they had some sort of celebration with the people not able to attend the real wedding. So, they came up with this idea of a pre-wedding stunt wedding.

What is a stunt wedding you might ask? Well, I think it is something newly made up by this couple. Basically, it was a costume party where everyone was asked to dress up as someone that had something to do with a wedding (even very remotely!). So, there were chefs, bridesmaids, mothers of the brides, the Queen, the Pope, Jesus, nuns, priests, pirates (they are ship's captains after all and could marry a couple), angles, etc. The costumes were pretty fun! The bride-to-be dressed up as a renaissance princess and the groom-to-be was dressed as a king.

The best fun of all was the "mock" wedding ceremony performed by "the Pope". He managed to sound much like the marriage officiant from "The Princess Bride", so that was quite a laugh. Also, the many objections to the marriage from the "guests" were also very entertaining. To finish off the night, there was food and a live band for some dancing. All quite informal and a lot of harmless fun.

Anyway, it was all a great time and the "real wedding" now has much to live up to! It certainly was fun and a great reminder not to take things too seriously. As a couple and throughout life, it's definitely important to laugh! The real wedding will be a more serious affair I'm sure, but this was a good way to celebrate with friends.

High Tea Bridal Shower
The second event I attended was a "high tea" bridal shower. This was a nice idea. We went to a little dessert bar in town that does a great British high tea.

Basically you got very tasty tea... the fancy loose leaf tea, scones with cream and jam, a quiche, and lots of tasty dessert pastries! We were asked to bring a recipe for the bride-to-be, and wear our best fancy hats.

All good fun, although the sugar crash afterwards was significant! Doing this everyday would NOT be good for the waistline, but for a special occasion like this, it was great!
