Lately, I have been blogging about the magic of wedding proposals. Over the weekend, I was fortunate to be a part of one couples special moment. Since we all love a good story, I thought Id’ share it with you.
We started out the night with the façade of a regular night out. It was their three-year anniversary, and the four of us made reservations at a restaurant with crisp white tablecloths, candles for ambiance, and a steak special that melted in your mouth. When we arrived, she was surprised to find a few more of our friends that “happened to be in town.” They pushed it off on a mutual friends birthday, and she seemed to buy into the excuse.
We took our places at the table, and it was no longer the groom that was nervous, but rather his best friend. He was frozen with the decision on where we should each sit at the table to make the moment right. It wouldn’t matter in the end, but the concern was sweet.
Dinner ran smoothly. The food was wonderful, and there was never a lull in the conversation. We were all caught up in the joy of spending time with good friends when he announced that she could finally have her anniversary present.
She had been begging for it all day. Especially as he slid on the new coat that afternoon that she had gotten him. It was wrapped in a large box that had stared at her in the hotel room. The large box was partially to throw her off the idea that a proposal was possible, and it was partially for the forgetful groom that didn’t want to forget the ring at the hotel.
He brought in the large box, and she began to unwrap it. Being the goofy couple they are, there was not one, but four boxes inside. Three boxes contained paper only. She quickly figured out this game and began shaking each box until she picked up the heaviest. There was a lot of anticipation and clicks of cameras as she pulled out the dark blue box.
She opened the little velvet case, and inside was the ring she had described many times before along with a wedding band. The three bands symbolized her, her husband, and god. The center diamond was surrounded in a halo of smaller diamonds. She began to cry as she looked over to him sitting there patiently. He slowly took the box from her hands and got down on one knee. The only words he could manage were the most important. “Will you marry me?”
The happy couple will be married next August.
