Royal Caribbean to Debut “Saturday Night Fever” Musical on Liberty

Royal Caribbean International this spring will debut “Saturday Night Fever: The Musical,” the third licensed mainstage musical production for the line. Created by Royal Caribbean Productions in association with Robert Stigwood Organisation Ltd., the West End show will debut aboard Liberty of the Seas in April as part of the ship’s revitalization beginning in late January.

Based on the 1970s feature film, “Saturday Night Fever,” the theatrical experience features a repertoire of songs from The Bee Gees album. Royal Caribbean also licensed the show “Hairspray” on Oasis of the Seas and “Chicago: the Musical” aboard Allure of the Seas, due out in late November.

“Saturday Night Fever: The Musical” premiered at the London Palladium in 1998 and has been seen by over 10 million people. On Liberty of the Seas, the story of Tony, the Brooklyn youth who spends his Saturday nights disco dancing, will be brought to life in the ship’s 1,320-seat Platinum Theatre.

Liberty of the Seas and Freedom of the Seas will introduce some other features found on Oasis of the Seas when the ships are revitalized during scheduled dry-docks in January and March, respectively. The enhancements will include DreamWorks Experience, 3D movie technology in the main theater; an oversized outdoor video screen on the main pool deck; iPod docks in every stateroom; the interactive touch-screen Wayfinder system; guest services kiosks to check-in and print airline boarding passes; and the Royal Babies and Tots Nursery, which provides nursery care through 36 months; Cupcake Cupboard; and Vintages wine bar.
