Granada is the oldest colonial city in Nicaragua and the entire Western Hemisphere. Museums have opened, including one of the finest in the country, the private Mi Museo, and new hotels and restaurants are increasing at a fast pace. Most of Granada's streets are quite narrow due to the city's layout before the advent of motorized vehicles.
Hotel Plaza Colon is located right in front of Parque Colón, known as Parque Central in the historical city of Granada. The hotel is set in an elegant antique colonial house that has been restored to its original style and architecture, with external courtyards and balconies overlooking Central Park and the Cathedral.
You can take a horse drawn carriage right at the front of the Hotel and tour the city around. Don Simon Cafeteria, just aside from the Hotel, will offer you a typical breakfast and a taste of the best Nicaraguan coffee. Granada has a cheerful night life full of bars and lounges.
Laguna de Apoyo is a volcano crater lake that can be seen from Mirador de Catarina. Only a half-hour drive or bus ride away from Granada, you reach the mirador by going through the village of Catarina, known for its nurseries of wonderful flowering plants and for local crafts.
