There’s something fascinating about peacocks. The glory of their plumage and their regal bearing do seem to lend themselves to the dramatic setting many Brides want to create for their weddings.  In various cultures and historical periods the peacock has symbolized awakening, immortality, royalty, refinement and incorruptibility – attributes that couples may seek in their marriages.

If you have chosen to incorporate the marvelous peacock into your wedding plans – lucky you!  There are so many ways to add touches of peacock to your big day.

One caveate, I would not include live birds as part of the wedding decor. As lovely as they look strutting around vast expanses of lawn, they can make a racket like you would not believe.  I once spent the night with some friends in Pacific Palisades where peacocks do roam freely and in the middle of the night this blood-curdling screams started up.  I dashed into the hallway and banged on their bedroom door convinced that someone was being murdered in the neighborhood.  My host apologized for not warning me about the peacock racket.

Now that you are ready to go, start with the invitation.  Quite a few companies offer peacock designs and some allow you to upload your own images to create customized invitations.  And if you have a peacock image on the inside why not dress up the enveolope with a stamp you create with your own artwork?

Then there are those spectacular color options – iridescent deep blue, fabulous greens, glamorous turquoise and lush golden browns – to work into everything from your centerpieces to your shoes. Shades of purple are often paired with the peacock color palette.

Centerpieces: Whether you want a low, simple arrangement, plan to add height to your tables or some combination of the two – peacock inspired options abound.  You might even want to consider a ceramic peacock or one created of feathers as the focus of your table.

Favors and table settings: peacock napkin rings, peacock feather on your napkin and lots of jewel-tone glass beads to pull everything together.

I’ve added an inspiration board to get your creative juices flowing.

Here’s to Love,
