It has come to my attention that many Brides are ordering dresses online. I am a seamstress and I alter bridal and formal wear. I have come across a growing problem when Brides are ordering on-line. The most common error is they order by what they wear for Ready to Wear clothing. This is a huge mistake!
When ordering Bridal and Formal Wear you must make sure to review the measurements from the company you are ordering from. In the Bridal Industry sizing is very different. What you would wear at a retail store will more often than not be the same size. Most assuredly it you will find you will be ordering a size or two larger.
So don't get offended by the number. Check your vanity at the door. This will help you avoid the drama and horror of a dress to small.
It is much easier to take in than let out. There is no guarantee of how much seam allowance is available in these gowns. Most companies do allow for some alterations but not all.
Below is a picture of the basic way to get your measurements. Be sure to take into consideration you want to go with the largest of your measurement and then choose the best size to order. The majority of the time there is always some alterations involved to acheive a perfect fit to your body type.
