Though planning a wedding is one of the most expensive and stressful things you’ll ever do in your life, going online and ordering a wedding dress from China is a little too risky for many people. Sure, you can save a lot of money that can be well spent on other aspects of your important day, but one wrong move and one of the most important elements can quickly became your biggest nightmare. Below, I will cover some of the money possible consequences of ordering from China to help you weigh your decision properly before placing your order online.
Probably the biggest risk you take when ordering a wedding dress online, from China or anywhere else for that matter, is that you don’t get to touch, feel, or see the dress with your own eyes before committing to the purchase. This can be a very expensive gamble because many out-of-country stores don’t accept returns or the return process is flat out too complicated, costly, or time consuming to be practical; especially if you are in a time crunch. Actually putting your hands and eyes on the dress you will be wearing on the most important day of your life is very advisable to ensure you get everything just right.
Another big issue when ordering online is that you are never sure about the quality of the materials you will be receiving. Many countries, including China, don’t have the quality standards that we require in the United States ranging from the stitching on the seams to the materials being flame resistant. The last thing you want is to be holding your gold sparklers for your grand exit and have your dress catch fire! Buying a wedding dress that was sewn in America ensures that the quality will be high and the material itself will be as safe as possible.
Lastly, shipping from China can be a nightmare all by itself, so you need to order way in advance if you are going to go ahead with this idea. For some brides, ordering in advance won’t be an issue because they are planning their wedding several months out. However, I’ve heard stories of a wedding dress taking over 2 months to be shipped from China after it was ordered online, so make sure to give yourself plenty of wiggle time just to be safe. There’s nothing worse than biting your nails waiting for something as crucial as your wedding dress to arrive at the very last minute.
In the end, there are a few compelling reasons that one might consider ordering online from China, but it is hard to see the pros outweigh the cons. The small amount of money you will save by ordering your wedding dress online from China is hardly worth the potential stress and poor quality you may find yourself being stuck with. The choice of where to purchase is completely up to you as the bride, but in my opinion there is no substitute for going to your local bridal shop and trying on endless amounts of dresses until you’re 100% happy with what you find; even if it ends up costing an extra few hundred dollars.
