This is the month of Candy, Bosses Day, and Harvest festivals.

Ahh....The month of sometimes tacky Halloween decor in the Cul De Sacs and creative scare fests at the local tourist trappings. Let us not forget the Beer brew- ha -has, Biketoberfest and Oktoberfest, The Southern Women's Show, Universal's Halloween Horror Nights, Busch Gardens Howl-o- Scream, Columbus Day and Halloween,  All hail, the month of October!

There are some other days on the calendar like United Nations Day and Eid that I am not sure how one goes about celebrating so I will stick with the ones I know.

Creative Centerpieces

This is a pretty busy month in warm Southern states for weddings. Autumn, and Harvest themes will collide respectfully with Halloween themed weddings. Your fall wedding in October can be bright with bursts of Orange and lots of lighting. Use yellows and greens to lighten the decor. Use the darker colors sparingly. You will see lots of deep oranges and reds, black and yellows, browns, gold and tan. You may also see creative pumpkin centerpiece ideas like these at many Fall weddings:

Which of these fall pumpkin centerpiece ideas do you like best? Real pumpkins are Eco friendly but don't have a long shelf life.

♥DIY tips♥

Carving pumpkins to decorate your ceremony and reception space can be a great money saver and an exciting project to involve your future spouse, bridal party, florist or wedding planner.Lighter colored pumpkins are usually softer and easier to carve. For longer life, soak the cleaned pumpkin a couple of hours in a bleach water solution of 1 teaspoon bleach to 1 gallon of water. Dry thoroughly, then rub inside and out, including all cut edges, with vegetable oil or petroleum jelly to prevent shriveling. If the pumpkin begins to shrivel, repeat the process. The soaking time will depend upon how dried out the pumpkin has become. Place your pumpkin in a in a plastic bag and refrigerate until ready to use (ref-about.com)

Since October is a popular month for candy, a candy buffet at your wedding reception is an exceptionally sweet treat for your guests.

Purchase candy in the colors of your wedding or in alignment with your theme. Use interesting vases and candy dishes to display your treats on your candy buffet. Not only is a candy buffet a sweet treat for your guests to take home, it's a tasty way to indulge your candy fetish without anyone being the wiser.

Here's a Halloween inspired bouquet I tried my hand at a few years back. I think the key to making a nice black artificial bouquet is spending a little more on the flowers so that the color is rich and saturated.
