Sending out plantable wedding cards and wearing a vegan wedding saree was probably unheard of during Tejasvini Shanmuganathan's mother's time. But that was precisely what Tejasvini, 30, did recently, and more.
Together with her husband, senior sustainability analyst Shatish Rao, 30, they were conscious about choosing an eco-friendly concept, using banana leaves to serve their guests, as well as biodegradable plates and cutlery plus photodegradable plastic bags.
Tejasvini also sent out green wedding cards, embedded with seeds, and wore a RM250 vegan wedding saree derived from plant-based material.
The Shah Alam, Selangor-based assistant manager is lucky Shatish is on the same page as her in terms of wanting to lead a more sustainable lifestyle.
“Both Shatish and I have always envisioned a green wedding,” said Tejasvini, whose wedding took place on Dec 10 at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Simpang Renggam, Johor.
“We have seen lots of wastage at events and weddings. So that was one of the trigger points in wanting to make our wedding as ‘green’ as possible."
