Let me start off by saying, and I’m sorry to disappoint, but I am in no way an expert on makeup. I cannot tell you how to do yours the day of your wedding, but I can give you some tricks and tips I’ve learned. So here are my five tips:
1. Know your face
Certain face shapes take certain types of makeup better than others. Though we would all love to contour like Kim Kardashian, it is not feasible for everyone. The same goes with the romantic smokey eye look. If your eyes are smaller like mine the smokey eye can go wrong very quickly. Ask your friends or significant other when they have liked your make up the most. Though you will probably want to play it up more on your wedding day, this will give you a jumping off point.
2. Follow the feel of your day
If you are having a formal ballroom affair, more makeup with dark liner may be more appropriate. In a simple country wedding neutrals may be a better feel. Make sure to voice this style with the person putting together your look.
3. Know what you want and voice it
This is your day and your style and your pictures to look at years from now. Don’t feel pressured into layering on the makeup or toning it down. Make sure it is what you are comfortable in. I can give you all the tips in the world, but in the end it’s what makes you feel beautiful. At the same time I can give you horror stories about dark lip liner at a casual wedding due to lack of protest during the prep stage.
4. Have a trial run
Whoever is doing your makeup the day of, even if it’s you, will need to practice. This will prevent any disappointment the day of and allow you to adjust your look before it’s too late.
5. Know your climate
There is nothing worse than having your makeup done beautifully and then sweating it off before all your pictures are done. Make sure you know the temperature and humidity the day of your wedding. You may want to bring along a fan to use between photos to prevent sweating off your makeup. You may also consider light-weight makeup in more humid environments.
