Beach fashion is what everyone talks about when summer starts approaching, and it seems like every year we have some new trends, tips and tricks to look stunning while soaking in the sun. If you think that it’s only about picking the right swimsuit, think again, because there is so much that goes into looking good when most of your skin is out in the open for anyone to see and have an opinion on.
People don’t see your organs or your bones – they see your skin. And you want that skin to be well taken care of, or it can make you severely self-conscious. One of the biggest issues women have with their skin on the beach is razor burns from shaving just before heading out. To prevent this, make sure you’re using a good quality shaving cream (or coconut oil) and, after you’re done, rub a moisturizing cream or body milk all over. This should minimize the redness and make your skin look smooth. If you have any stretch marks or scars – that’s perfectly fine. There’s nothing you can do to get rid of them (despite what miracle cream ads will tell you) and the worst thing you can do is try to cover them up or feel ashamed of them when they’re on display. They’re your tiger stripes, so be proud of them and show them off. Of course, since you’ll be exposed to the sun, make sure you’re applying a good amount of high SPF sun screen.
There’s no reason why you shouldn’t accessorize your beach outfit the same way you would any other. Keep in mind that things like chunky necklaces and bracelets can look great for a photo, but they will leave odd tan lines and might fall off while you’re swimming. Focus on fashion in the things that are practical: the perfect towel, big beach bag, stylish sandals to protect your feet, a sun hat to keep heat strokes at bay and all the other little things that can add to your look. Get a perfect pair of sunglasses that fit your face well and always wear them when you’re in the sun. If you’re wearing a swimsuit cover-up, make sure you’re wearing it because you feel like it adds to your outfit, not because you want to hide your body. All of these accessories will add to your outfit and make you feel more confident, and it will definitely cement your position as the beach fashionista.
A person can look a thousand different ways just by changing how they are standing and what angle they are seen from. People who feel conscious about their bodies will often let their shoulders and posture slouch, which only worsens their overall shape. Make sure you’re always walking tall, shoulders back and head high. If you’re tensed up all the time, it will show, so try to relax and find a pose you’re comfortable in, while staying classy.
There’s a lot to be said about faking confidence, and going to the beach is a great example of this. Whether you have no idea where to put your towel or you’re feeling crazy insecure about your body, as long as you act confident, people will perceive you that way, and eventually you will accept it as well. Look through magazines and Instagram profiles, channel the energy of people you admire and have a good time.
After all, you’re not on the beach to be judged, compared or picked apart, so don’t do it to yourself. The most important thing is that you feel good and that you’re having fun, and making preparations to make sure you look good will give you the ease of mind and let you relax and enjoy your day.
