For many decades, there has been very little variation in terms of fashion in the wedding party, always including lots and lots of tulle Thankfully, those days are behind us as today’s wedding fashion is taking inspiration straight from the runway. Here are the four fashion trends that are staples of modern wedding attire.
Different Shades &/or Colors
Whether you’ve decided to modernize your wedding party with different dress cuts, you most definitely should add variety a variety of color. This doesn’t mean that you need your bridesmaids to look like a rainbow. Instead, opt for different shades of your preferred color scheme like the paint chips you pick up at the hardware store. If you prefer multiple colors, take a note from this year’s Prada and Dolce & Gabbana’s runway trends with pastels.
Wear White
Thanks to Pippa Middleton’s show stopping bridesmaid dress at the royal wedding in 2011, it has become a staple of modern weddings for bridesmaids to wear white. This trend also fits perfectly with the non-white wedding dress movement. If you are going more traditional with a white wedding dress, the whole party can wear white, too, and consider adding faux fur coats or shawls which follow along with the white fur craze seen on Louis Vuitton and Stella McCartney’s runways this season. Finish the look off with bright lipstick and flowers to add pops of color.
Dress Cuts
There is absolutely no way that your entire wedding party has the same body shape, so why would you stick them in the same dress? It’s easier than ever to find a line of dresses that offer different length, sleeve and neckline variations. So if Krissa has a love/hate relationship with her knees, then make her dress floor length and let her show off her amazing arms in a sleeveless get-up while Brittany can show off her legs in a mid-thigh length cut—but cover her arms in a long sleeved dress. If your wedding fund is running a bit low, you can save on ultra-chic dresses with Yoox coupons from Discountrue, which your bridesmaids will love for their trendiness and versatility.
Prints
Prints have been virtually non-existent for wedding parties, but it's now their time to shine. Saint Laurent and Isabel Marant are showcasing horizontal stripes in their lines, but no one is doing it better this season than Sonia Rykiel, who has added in glittery stripes. Take it to another level and use a striped skirt with a sparkly top.
The success of modern wedding fashions is in large part to the fact that all previously unwritten wedding rules are being thrown out the window. The secret of success is to take inspiration from the runways and make it work for your personal taste.
