Weddings are expensive! There I said it! There is a cost behind having the day you have dreamed about your whole life. So, here are ten tips to cut down on big day expenses and keep you on budget.
10) Make a budget and keep up with it
Know how much you have to spend and talk about it openly with whoever is helping you fund your affair. Put it all in spreadsheet so you can track each expense. Then stick to what you set out.
9) Consider a family style meal over individual plates
Cost per head is expensive and you always have those pesky guests that RSVP and don't show up to dinner. Have the wait staff serve plates that can be passed around the table. Guests will take what they want and how much they want. They may even be likely to take less from a communal bowl and therefore less waste per plate. Any leftovers can then be packaged for your next day get together rather than wasted.
8) Order flowers that are in season
If your wedding is in the fall a peony is going to cost you a lot more than it will in the spring.
7) Carry your flowers throughout the day
Have the flowers you like in your bouquets and your centerpieces. The florists may be able to get them cheaper in bulk.
6) Have a RSVP option on your wedding site
If you are having a wedding website why not add an RSVP option and save money on postage. Every penny counts!
5) Shop sample sales for designer dresses
Shops will post these on their sites. Know what you want before you go and save hundreds on your dream designer dress.
4) Prioritize
Know what things you can't live without that are worth the splurge and what you can skimp on.
3) Cut back on the extravagant cake
Do you really want to take all those leftovers home? Many of your guests won't even eat cake leaving you with a whole lot of waste to pawn off on your relatives.
2) Pick a venue that doesn't need a lot of decoration
Public venues such as a zoo or aquarium are less expensive to rent out and don't need as much decoration as a bare banquet hall. Explore what your city has to offer for unique settings.
