What is that I spy on your ring finger? Were you surprised with a little sparkle this holiday season? If you're recently engaged, first, let me say CONGRATULATIONS! You are about to embark on one of the most exciting, chaotic, wonderful, and at times, stressful, times of your life! There is a lot to be done between now and your as-yet-to-be-chosen wedding date, so here's a head start to make these initial steps as stress free as possible!
- First things first, tell everyone the happy news!! You can send cards, make phone calls or go high-tech with a mass update via Facebook or Twitter. Just be aware- if your bestie finds out through your status update, she's going to be a tad PO'd. For the sake of your friendships and traditional etiquette, let your VIPs know either in person or over the phone. They're going to want to squeal with excitement right along with you!
- Second, consider your budget. I know, what a buzzkill, right? But it's NOT! It's probably the most important discussion you'll have during this process. Your budget will determine the size and likely the style of your wedding- two factors you'll need to have locked down before you can start dealing with the details. So sit down with the fiance (and your 'rents if you think they'll be open to helping out) and talk turkey- set an upper limit. Determine what your priorities are (maybe he's jazzed by the idea of live music, while you're dead set on a sushi buffet), and get an idea of what you're in for. Just remember, a bigger guest list generally means a bigger bill!
- Finally, if you're starting to feel overwhelmed, get help! Consider hiring a professional wedding planner or coordinator to help you stay calm and focused. Delegating tasks that you don't feel like dealing with (calling yet ANOTHER florist) can help keep your inner bridezilla from rearing her ugly head.
Remember, this too is temporary, so try to enjoy it! Spend time with your fiance, just being together, and being in love. After all that is what brought you together! Good luck!!
