Independence Day is one of America’s most beloved holidays, and we celebrate with fireworks and hotdogs from coast to coast. Also known as the 4th of July, it is a holiday that commemorates our countries’ birthday and our Independence from British rule. However, like most other popular holidays, many brides and grooms decide to get married on Independence Day; especially men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Fortunately, there are many great ideas to help you get the most out your Independence Day wedding and really let your patriotic spirit soar on your day of dual purpose celebration.
Flag Ceremony
Flag ceremonies are a very well-known way to honor servicemen and women on Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day, but they can also make a very patriotic addition to an Independence Day wedding. The flag ceremony can also be particularly heartfelt if one or both of the people getting married served in the military or have family members that served. One of the most emotional experiences I have had at a wedding was when the flag that was given to a family after their dad was killed in Afghanistan was brought out to the altar so he could still be at the wedding in spirit.
Uncle Sam Officiant
This is a little more fun than flat out patriotic, but it is still a great way to add unique touch to your Independence Day Wedding. Uncle Sam is an iconic character created by the US Government to boost recruitment during times of war. Now the nationally recognized mascot of the 4th of July, Uncle Sam is the perfect symbol of patriotism to take your wedding to new all-American heights; particularly when coupled with some giant sparklers of course. Your guests will never forget the spectacle when you have Uncle Sam make your marriage official and the kids will have one of the best 4th of Julys of their lives.
Fighter Jet Flyover
Okay, this one is a little over the top; but it is also probably the coolest one overall. Everybody has seen the fighter jet flyovers at football games and high profile military ceremonies, but why not for your Independence Day wedding? Aside from the obvious expenses that would make it fairly impractical for the average couple, the huge level of patriotism this would bring to your ceremony simply can’t be ignored. Short of having a firing squad or a military marching band, there’s really nothing more patriotic that I can think of than a fighter jet flyover.
