I wish I had remembered to include something old, new, borrowed and blue

A few years ago my friend Dani was getting married in Las Vegas, but I couldn't go.  I wanted to give her something personal, that she could pack in her luggage but that was also something that would make her feel that I was with her in "spirit" on her special day, as I couldn't be there in person.  I decided to make her a charm cluster, that she could sew into her wedding dress on the day, that encompassed something old, something new, something borrow, something blue. The cluster included an old pearl, a new bead, a charm that belonged to me, and a blue palm tree.  Dani told me afterwards that she could gently feel the charms tinkling as she walked down the aisle, and she knew that I was with her.

For my own wedding, which was very hand made (the dress, the rings, the flowers, the posters, the invitations and the thank you cards!), I forgot to incorporate something old, new, borrowed and blue.  In retrospect I was able to think that I had something on that represented these things, a blue dress, and vintage headpiece, a new ring etc but in my heart I knew that I had missed the opportunity to fulfil this tradition.

That is why I developed the idea I had when my friend got married and created Something Forever, a hand made charm cluster has been designed for the bride to wear first on her marriage day by sewing the broach into her dress, and then for the rest of her life, by transferring the broach onto the chain to make a pendant.  Each charm represents an ingredient of the traditional recipe for a bride’s happiness on her wedding day: something old - a pearl, something new- a sycamore seed, something borrowed- a declaration of love taken from Shakespeare’s 21st sonnet, and something blue – the flower of a bluebell.

I would love to know what future brides or existing Mrs ... are going to use/used for their something old, new, borrowed and blue?
