How to Choose the Right Honeymoon for Both of You

One of the most exciting components to a couple’s wedding nuptial planning is deciding where to run off to after the ceremony. A well-planned honeymoon can be the most relaxing experience of a couple’s early marriage. However, if not planned together with great consideration, the honeymoon can also be an utter nightmare.

What’s the budget?

Carefully consider the budget for the honeymoon beginning with expenses including travel costs, accommodations, meals and entertainment as well as emergency money. Also consider each person’s current financial situation from income to expenses and savings. Decide whether to use saved money in paying honeymoon expenses or to rely on each person’s average income.

What’s the dream?

Most people have thought about their future honeymoon at some point. For many, it is a lifelong dream. For others, it's the fleeting image that distracted them during ring shopping. While one person may be dreaming of a summer say at The Baker House 1650 in the Hamptons, another may be looking forward to a quiet cross-country road trip. It matters little who has thought about it most or for the longest time; the challenge is to make the dreams of both newlyweds come true. So begin by sharing these honeymoon aspirations with one another openly and honestly.

What’s the timeframe?

Some people love to travel and relish being away from home for as long as possible. Others, however, would much rather stay home than to venture out and see the world. It is important to choose and stick with a specific time frame as well as time of the year to travel. These days many newlywed couples, especially those having summertime weddings, choose to put off their honeymoon for several months. They enjoy the bliss of being newlyweds for a while, opting to travel during a less seasonable time.

What’s the preferred type of travel?

Some couples find that they are not exactly compatible when it some to travel. While one person may really love to fly the friendly blue skies, the other may be terrified just at the thought of boarding a plane. It is important to know which travel method and distance each person has in mind and then adjust to a traveling game plan that is well suited for both parties.

The best way to conjure a magical honeymoon plan is to communicate openly and honestly, do plenty of research before settling on a destination, and plan every aspect of the trip in detail.
