How Not to Lose 25% of Your China: DepositAGift.com Instead!

When we launched, I received a slew of "Where were you when I got married?", "I am so jealous I am done having babies and getting married, this would have been great!" and "Maybe I should get divorced so we can register again?!" All in jest, I'm sure, but we seem to have struck a cord with people walking a fine line between being super appreciative for all that they received and secretly wishing that they had just received money as gifts instead, to buy what they needed when the time was right.

I remember when we were getting married, people were constantly sharing their adventures in 'registry-land' with us. Tales of weekends spent slaving away in their parents' basements moonlighting as inventory clerks to figure out what sets were complete, which were broken and which things had been discontinued mid-engagement. And yes, this happens a lot. Not to mention the constant trips to and from the stores, navigating tricky return policies, harried salespeople and growing guilt over so much wasted shipping and what all that popcorn was doing to poor Mother Earth.

A friend of mine recently told me a story that you might relate to: Since their wedding, they've moved twice, and their gifts were spread across four different locations. Last year they achieved their dream of home ownership and finally had a chance to aggregate their four-year-old wedding gifts into one location. They were so excited to have the opportunity to host their first Thanksgiving and went to pull out their never-used china, only to find that 25% of it was missing. Yes, you heard me right...TWENTY-FIVE PERCENT. MISSING.

At this point, it could be anywhere: someone's house, old apartment, moving truck, side of the road, but not on their dining table where it should be. So sad, and such a pain, but unfortunately, not an uncommon story.

This doesn't have to be your story. Create a cash gift registry with Deposit a Gift instead and use your gift money to buy what you want, when you're ready. As UrbanBaby.com recently said about us: "So efficient. So 2010. So on the money." http://blogs.urbanbaby.com/buzz/2010/01/06/cash-is-king/
