This is an excerpt of the article How do Married Couples Divide Money originally published at Budget a Wedding.
There are many different ways to handle finances in a marriage. Some couples split bills, others combine all their finances into one account, and many do something in between those two.
Mint.com recently posted an infographic showing how married couples divide their
money with regards to young professionals (under 30 years old and
making 50K or more), affluent households (making more than 100K), and
the general population. Young professionals do not look good in the
finance department.
One comment that somebody left says “Gen Y is doomed”. Do you agree with that sentiment? Personally I do not. I think that learning how to combine the finances of two adults can take time and the younger generation just does not have the same level of experience with that as the older generation. Just because they are arguing about it now does not mean that they will not ever get it "figured out".
