hold the cheese

We've all been at weddings, work parties, birthdays and clubs where the DJ has been soo cheesey you almost get a kidney stone. So what are the best options when it comes to the music at your wedding and reception?

Loving Live
Live music can make the wedding reception one pumping party. Given the right song choice, a great sound and a few glasses of bubbly everyone should be up and at'em on the dancefloor.

Some things to think about:-
  • Live bands (good ones) don't come cheap
  • Make sure you look at the set list. You don't have to love ALL the songs but you should like the majority of them
  • Agree on the time they will play for. You can always ask a band to stay on for longer but you will have to pay for that.
  • Be upfront about what you want so they can deliver.
Karaoke Kings

Not for the shy and retiring couple a Karaoke wedding can result in a lot of laughs and some revealling of hidden talents amongst your guests.

Consider:-
  • Song choice is everything when it comesa to Karaoke. Have a wide selection particularly focused on the 70's and 80's
  • Are your guests the karaoke type? If they are not - no matter how much booze you plough into them Karaoke is NOT a good idea
  • You still have to arrange /hire someone to run the show for you. Hiring a karaoke machine and leaving it in the corner waiting for people to use it won't encourage people to get up and sing. Ask a friend or hire the DJ to come with it so they can manage the order of songs, who sings next and really pick up the party if it starts to lag.
Put a Record On

Hiring a Jukebox or using your ipod to pump out the tunes means that you are in complete control with your song lists. Your day and your tunes!

Consider:
  • You still need someone sober enough to enter in songs or hit play when the songs run out.
  • Make sure you organise your lists into wedding music, speeches and dance tunes etc. The last thing you want during the middle of a pumping, thumping set of songs that has everyone dancing is some Celine Dion.
  • Think about your guests. Not everyone likes Miley Cyrus, in fact your grandmothers thinks it's a new Uncle Tobys cereal. Make sure you still have a collection from different era's to keep everyone happy and more importantly, dancing!
