For the DIY bride there are lots of ways to save money on your wedding. While some of these locations/ideas are specific to my local area, they could easily be adapted to other locations.
Save on:
FoodLook at some of the local restaurants for reception locations. Many will let you use their facility for free for paying for the catering.
Look for part-time caterers on Craigslist or through friends. You can find many good prices this way. However, you may have to provide all of the plates, napkins, etc in this scenario.
Contact some of your local caterers and tell them what budget you have for your food. Many will negotiate or offer substitute menus.
Invitation, Decorations, FavorsBuy the main invitation online and then assemble it with RSVP cards you have printed at home
Party City - This store sells a large array of invitations which you can have imprinted. They frequently offer specials and sales. The store is also a good place to find decorations, favors and other wedding related items. (Walk into the store to see the full line of invitations)
This is a great use for ebay. You can find lots of great deals here.
FlowersBuy live flowers and make the bouquets yourself. Sams Club, Costco and The Fresh Market typically carry nice selections at better prices. Also check out wholesale flowers to the public. These are great ways to save money. You will just have t be prepared to purchase, store and arrange the flowers within the 24 - 48 hours before the wedding.
