Hair Extension Training is important to learn how to apply the different techniques of hair extensions. Within the last few years Hair Extension Training has massively risen in popularity. I think I would prefer to start, with what not to look for in this area of Training! Unfortunately there are a lot more unqualified, unaccredited and simply awfully taught courses out there, than what there are good ones!
When deciding on a course, you need to look at what you, as a stylist, want to get out of it. If you are working already as a hairdresser and you want a well known brand of hair extension to work with, then look at the bigger companies. The types of people that will get on with these courses will be capable, competent and very independent. You will receive the training, some advertising material and an office phone number. Getting through to anyone to ask advice and get support will probably be a bit of a nightmare, so you will have to take the bull by its horns and just go for it. The chances of you getting any referrals through from the company are quite slim, but if you have your own existing client base then you don't need to worry too much.
The best hair extensions training courses offer you theoretical as well as practical courses. You'll need to start by learning about the different techniques that are used these days. The trainer will also have to offer you manual explanation so that you can see exactly what the job entails. You should also be given the opportunity to try fixing the extensions on your home. Some hair extension training programs also give you a dummy training head (with or without a stand) so that you can practice in your free time in order to gain plenty of expertise.
Hair extensions are a way to get fuller, longer, and beautiful heads of hair without having to wait for hair to grow naturally. There are many methods used to apply hair extensions like fusion, beading, bonding, and weaves. Hair extensions can be expensive and time consuming. Proper color, texture, length, and natural looking extensions all depend on the ability and training of the stylist hired to perform the task. Seminars, classes, and in-salon teaching are three ways for stylists to become trained in the use and application of hair extensions.
This course includes:
Salons that advertise extension services should employ stylists with proper certifications. In order to receive certification a stylist must learn the ins and outs of applying the extensions as well as removing them. They are taught application and removal techniques, about tools and their uses, client consultation practices, maintenance and care of extensions, refreshing, and most importantly, are given hands on experience.
A course trainer must be recording assessment to prove that that person has been listening and taking in what is being taught. If the trainer does not do this and they then hand the certificate to the candidate, but they have no record of the candidate learning, the trainer is then liable.
As far as Hair Extension Training courses go, I have a firm belief that until practice on a number of different types of hair has been done, certificates should not be issued. The candidate should not be qualified to go out into the big wide world, advertising as a fully trained stylist, when clearly learning this skill takes a lot of practice.
