Personalities. Eighty-percent of all people have one. So, the odds are that both you and your spouse each have a distinct personality.

Your personality, although not perfect in every way, is quite normal and a lot of fun. Your spouse’s personality, while not always horrible, is flawed and annoying in many, many ways. Your friends and relatives almost all agree with you on this.

But, that’s why they always say “opposites attract”, right? No. That saying has something to do with magnets or atomic particles. People are a totally different thing.

The reason you were once attracted to your spouse’s personality is because he or she did a fantastic job of disguising it. When someone is trying to sell a house and they find a moldy wall in the basement, what do they do? They paint over it at the last minute. The mold is still there. It just takes awhile to resurface.

So, at some point well after the honeymoon, you find out that, in addition to painting over the moldy part of his or her personality, your spouse also neglected to disclose the bad wiring and the leaky septic system. There are laws against this behavior when selling a house. Unfortunately, when it comes to marriage, you have no protection or recourse.
