Life is filled with many precious moments:
The moment you know you are about to become engaged, the moment he is dropping to his knee and you see him going down in the slowest movie-style motion, the moment you have to fake a surprised reaction (or not) because you may or may not have been checking all of his receipts! Mrs. Jennifer Dertouzos has a grand idea to collect these precious moments from everyday people and put a good selection of proposals into ONE book! Surely this will be every bride-to-be’s weekend read!
We sit down with the creative mind behind
this brilliant project - Jennifer Dertouzos and we discuss the book and weddings (our favorite topic)!
GTG: How did you come up with the idea & inspiration for the book?
Jennifer: My younger brother recently got engaged and so did one of my good friends. Usually, when I ask for the details, the future bride chimes in and her version of the story is all we hear. Since there are two narratives to most stories, I think each side is equally important. I also think that with all the sadness and chaos in the world, we could all use some real-life love stories.
Jake and Reda – A real-life love story to be featured in Engaged!
GTG: Will there be a sequel?
Jennifer: If there’s enough interest in this book, I would love to create a sequel. The second book would have to be about what happens long after the engagement period. A good title might be, “Married: Secrets to Staying Happy Together”. For this book, I’d like to collect stories from couples who have been together for ten or more years.
GTG: Where will be able to get our hands on a book?
Jennifer: If the Kickstarter campaign gets fully funded, the e-book will be available online from a HUGE online retailer. Hard copies of the book will be available in a local Miami boutique. I can’t disclose this information until the project is fully funded.
GTG: What’s your favorite part of wedding/engagements, besides the proposal?
Jennifer: The whole engagement period is so much fun. Shopping for the wedding dress, the invitations, looking for venues, cake tastings, the whole thing is wonderful and magical. This might sound strange, but creating the guest list has to be another one of my favorite moments of the engagement period. This is a process that allows both the bride and groom to evaluate the relationships they have with the people in their lives. This is also the first time that they are consciously deciding who (from their single life) will continue to be part of life as a married couple.
