My girlfriend found
Digitives when looking for a birth announcement card for her little one.
The idea is simple, cost effective and a great alternative if the budget doesn't allow for the cost of having them made through an invitation business or you can't spare the time to get crazy with the craft glue and paper cutters.
Basically, you provide an image of you and your loved one which is inserted into the design. (Of course you can pay for the personalised design to go with your colour scheme). The image and text are provided back to you as a proof and once approved the final digitives are sent to you on either photo paper or card stock.
If you have the at home software (any photo publishing / editing software) you might even be able to create the photo save the date and save it onto a disc or USB. It is then just a quick trip to your local photo shop, KMart or Officeworks to have them printed and hey presto! You have your save the date.
If you like the idea, you can always use this in your theme and create your wedding invites, placecards and thankyous including a photo.
