Thanks to Carlee from Snobs for the link

I am a google bride. I have wikipedia'd how to write vows, google'd table settings and bing'd speech etiquette. Anything that allows me to finalise my wedding details in the comfort and "hassle free" environment of my own home - is a good thing.

And that's why I love the following. Jewelers have got onboard to help and iBride and created websites where you can design your own ring.

So rather than fiance getting all dear in hearlights when it comes to choosing, or even the both of you plodding through shopping centers and jewelry stores for hours on end you can create (and order) your engagement, wedding or eternity ring sitting in front of your PC.

design a ring from your PC

The benefits are endless - not feeling intimidated by sales staff pushing you to spend more, having the ring you really want but as with anything online, you still have to take a little caution and read all the small print. You don't want carots and get delivered lemons.

Check out Zales, Goldenet and Abazias for just some of the sites offering this service.

And design away!

It's a great idea in theory. I always think it's a good idea to get design ideas from the web. Check out the latest styles in silver. Silver jewelry follows fashion trends faster than bridal jewelry.
One thing to keep in mind that can be problematic with armchair shopping is (1) fit. I don't mean just the ring size, but also the height of the ring off your finger or if it gouges your fingers when you squeeze them together and (2) quality. Anyone with a decent digital camera and a computer can "doctor" diamond and gemstone photos. don't believe me? Buy a ruby ring on ebay. They look great onscreen but look cloudy when you get it.

My suggestion is to use the web to gain design ideas, and stop shopping where the employees are pushy. As someone who once worked for a large chain jewelry store, I can tell you we had a credit application quota that if left unfilled meant termination. It is worthwhile to develop a trusting relationship with a jeweler who will see you through your wedding and future anniversaries, etc.
