This is simply not correct. Although I would not recommend you read the speech from A4 pieces of paper, it is definitely a good idea to have notes in the way of bullet-points or even to have the speech outlined on A5 sized paper or similar. Have it written out in full if thats what you feel you need. It is what makes you feel the most confident and relaxed on the day that matters. Following all of this will assist you to avoid making an embarrassing disaster of it all. The last thing to remember is to enjoy it! You might feel that it's of the utmost importance to you, and that great expectations are had by everybody, but realistically the End of the World is not reliant on the outcome. Just make sure that you enjoy the Speech too, and if you do then the Audience will as well.
