Outdoor weddings can be beautiful. You can get back to nature, really utilize the space available to you, have lots of fun and get some truly gorgeous photographs. But, what about in winter time? Many people would like an outdoor winter wedding. They imagine a magical setting, filled with color and texture. But, they are put off by the idea of being cold. No one wants their wedding day ruined by cold or wet weather.

One big draw of an outdoor winter wedding is the cost. Outdoor weddings can be significantly cheaper, as can winter weddings. So, put together you could save an absolute fortune, while still getting the magical setting of your dreams. Let’s take a look at everything you need for the perfect outdoor winter wedding.

Toilets

If you are getting married in a garden, your own or a relative’s, you won’t want the guest traipsing through the house to go to the toilet all of the time. While this is also true in summer, it’s a lot worse in winter when feet could be muddy and wet. Hire restrooms for outdoor weddings and make sure you’ve got enough to keep everyone comfortable.

Layers

You might be surprised to find with all the rushing around, you actually get quite warm. So, think layers. Wear something under your dress and have a wrap or throw for over your shoulders. Don’t forget to advise your guests to do the same.

Blankets

Place thick, woolen blankets on your guests’ chairs or table instead of the usual favors. Make the cold weather a part of the day. You could even offer hot water bottles and hand warmers.

Heaters

You can also hire portable heaters for the day, which will be especially useful in the dining area and around the ceremony when people will be sat still in the cold for longer periods of time. Just remember that not all heaters are equal. Some only really heat the area right in front of them, and others can be very noisy. Neither of which are ideal for your wedding, so make sure you test some out and get some demonstrations before committing.

Look After the Wedding Party

Many brides wrap themselves up in gorgeous fur shrugs but completely forget their bridesmaids who then end up blue and shivering in all of the photographs. Why not buy your wedding party colorful wraps or scarves to complement their dresses? If you are expecting bad weather or there’s a risk of snow you could even get coordinating wellies for the day.

Warm Drinks

Instead of the usual champagne, offer your guests a Baileys hot chocolate on arrival, and make sure warm drinks and treats are on offer throughout the day.

If you are thinking about an outdoor winter wedding, the best way to go about it is by fully embracing your decision. Make it winter themed and think about ways to warm everyone up at every part of the day. Remember, so many people have summer weddings, yours could be different and unique. Have some fun with it.
