Brides and Grooms Should Be Present At Their Party

Have you ever been to a wedding reception where the dance floor is somewhat empty, even though the wedding DJ is playing songs that should be packing the dance floor?  If so, did you ever take a minute to see where the bride and groom are?  As Boston wedding DJ’s who have performed all over New England from northern MassachusettsNew Hampshire and Maine, one aspect that is common at most weddings no matter the location or venue, is that the guests will be or will want to be where the bride and groom are.

We have performed at several weddings where the bride and groom’s vision for their reception was an all out party with a packed dance floor.  The wedding DJ’s at Avid Entertainment LOVE to hear this as this is why we love our job – packing the dance floor and assisting the bride, groom and their guests in having the time of their lives.  However, at these specific weddings, the bride and groom were not present at their own party.  They may have been off taking pictures or out on the patio socializing with guests for an extended amount of time.  What brides and groom’s should really think about when they envision their wedding day is that if they are expecting the dance floor to be filled, then they should be two of the people that are helping to pack the dance floor.

When a couple gets married, the day is all about them.  Everyone wants to hug the bride and groom, take photos with them, and have a conversation with them to see how they are enjoying their big day.  This holds true for the entire wedding.  If the bride and groom are off taking pictures for an hour down by the water or behind the reception venue overlooking a gorgeous sunset, that is where many of the guests will be – watching the beautiful newlyweds taking their pictures, if the area is accessible to them.  Or if the bride and groom are out on the patio talking to guests for an extended amount of time, then many guests will want to be out there with them.  (This idea is also relevant to our blog “Determine Your Wedding Reception Vision BEFORE Booking Your Wedding...” which you may want to check out).

What we have noticed is that as soon as the bride and groom are on the dance floor, again, that’s where the guests want to be.  They feed off the energy the couple is providing.  If the bride and groom are out on the dance floor having a great time, then their family and friends will want to be out there with them, sharing in those moments.

As a bride and groom, you may want to think about what you are looking for during your reception.  The day will go by in the blink of an eye and with only a few hours to party with your guests, do you really want to be away from  your reception for an hour taking additional pictures?  Or do you want to be  away from the dance floor for an extended amount of time sitting on the patio with a drink?  Or do you want to be having the time of your life out on a packed dance floor with all of your guests together, celebrating the new Mr. and Mrs.?  This is just something to think about before the big day arrives, so that brides and grooms have an idea as to how they want to spend their time at their wedding reception.

No matter how the bride and groom chooses to spend their time at their wedding reception, as long as they have a clear vision as to what they expect at their party and have an idea as to how they are going to help create that vision before the big day arrives, then they are sure to have the wedding reception of their dreams!
